Temporary Storage: Sainsburys, Stockport

Requirement

When the Operations Manager of Sainsburys, Hazel Grove, Stockport realised the need for more storage space he asked for the space to be “Temporary but substantial, flexible and secure”, and this is exactly we provided for him. The Hazel Grove store is just one of three unique new type of stores in the Sainsbury chain. The layout is unique, a café in the centre of the store and an interactive ‘Kids Zone’ upstairs. The entrance is also in the centre of the store and customer service is the main ethic of these new ideas, so much so that at the recent retail awards, considered as the ‘Retail Industry Oscars’, the store was the winner of ‘Retail launch of the year’ something the staff are extremely proud of.

Storage Structures Provided

Sainsburys hired a structure covering 200 square metres for six months. It had an overall upright side height of 5 metres, 1 sliding door and 2 pedestrian anti-panic doors. Single thickness, steel cladding for the walls and single skin PVC roof covering.

Benefit

Extra space was an essential part of the launch period which gave the flexibility needed to ensure stock levels were right to cope with demand in what has proved to be a very successful new store.

Conclusion

Now that his temporary structure has been removed, the Operations Manager and his team realise what a good job it did for them. “The space proved a great bonus and we’ll probably need to replace it for next Christmas ”
